This week’s Roving Quarter Sale will be in bargain SCIENCE, from July 26-30.
This includes the topics of experiments, life science, human body/health/nutrition/fitness/sex ed, plants, animals, habitats, earth science, weather, rocks & minerals, space, chemistry, physical science, physics, creation topics, and old edition homeschool brand science curricula.
It takes up one and a half bookcases. These are normally $1 per book but will now be 25c each (or 25c/$1.00–so a packaged set of 3 books was $3 and is now 75c.)

It’s time for our second round of the Roving Quarter Sale for the summer. With record consignments coming in this year, we have filled all our nooks and crannies again!
The sale will run from July 19-23. It is in the Readers section, which includes two bookcases in the bargain area. This covers books from toddler board books up to high school/adult novels, and everything in between. There are early readers (I Can Read type books), chapter books, novels, abridged classics, and series books. Though usually located in a different section, children’s devotionals, Bible story books, and children’s Bibles will be included. Normally one dollar each, they will all be $.25 each.

It is fine if you would like to park in the grass, but please do not leave your engine running. If you need to have the AC on for grandma or the kids, please find a spot in the parking lot or road. Otherwise you will leave behind a car-sized dead spot in our grass.
Kids are welcome to view the animals in the company of their parent. But please be aware, we are not set up as a petting zoo, and there are obstacles and dangerous equipment around.

1. Bargain Reader bookcase. This includes adult/high school, elementary/middle school, and little kid reading books: novels, series, abridged classics, picture books, and phonics readers.
Also, in the main store in bins are I Can Read style books and 3 crates of over-sized picture books. All are 25c each. The bins will have signs.

We will be putting a temporary moratorium on certain items even though they are current edition. We just have too many. So until further notice we will not be accepting:
Abeka grade 4, 5, 6 teacher editions or test keys. (Student books, test books and readers are fine.)

Bookcase 2 + 1/2 of 3: Current Edition —Alpha Omega Lifepacs. I plan to discontinue carrying lifepacs so even though this isn’t ‘technically’ part of the bargain section, it will be this week! There are a few exclusions but they are not shelved there (Spanish, Health, Home Ec, Worldview). This is only for the lifepacs, not AO thumb drives or DVDs. It does include the teacher editions to the lifepacs. Bagged groups of lifepacs must go together. Look for signs—the bookcase (and a half) is in the Book Barn but not in the bargain section—it’s right at the front door.

Quick note about our farm—The store is located at our home on a small farm with animals. However, we are not set up to be a petting zoo. It is not safe for children to wander around the animals or the farm equipment. It is fine if an adult would like to walk with their children to look at the animals. But the kids should not do this alone. We have had children get hurt, animals get hurt, and equipment damaged. Thank you for your cooperation in this!

If the entrepreneurial fire is raging and you want to start making a profit from your skills and talents, it’s never really too early to begin the process, as long as you have the necessary perseverance and are willing to navigate the startup process diligently.
Becoming a teen entrepreneur can teach you valuable problem-solving, financial management, and decision-making skills. Not to mention, it can significantly boost your college and career prospects. Here is a quick-start guide to get you going!
Settle on an Idea
Your first step will be to identify a business idea that aligns with your talents, interests, and skills and that can bring you a profit. As a teen entrepreneur, you have plenty of options.
You could start an affiliate marketing blog where you write about topics you’re passionate about. You could open an online store selling products you believe in. You could even craft and sell your own products through an online store or major marketplaces like Etsy and Facebook Marketplace.
Some teenagers make money from tutoring or coaching younger kids, which you could do house-to-house or from your own home. If you’re good with children, you could succeed as a babysitter. If you want to add manual labor to the mix, consider starting a lawn maintenance company. Take time to explore potential ideas and research the market to gauge demand.
Identify Your USP and Market
Your unique selling proposition (USP) is what distinguishesyour brand from others. It essentially describes why customers choose or should choose your company’s products or services. Whether it’s the specific product or service, the speed at which you work, or any other characteristic, determine what is unique about your business so you can strategize around it.
You’ll also need to identify precisely what customers you will target. Where do they hang out locally and online? What messages and channels will you use to reach them?
Form an Entity
Every company needs a legal structure. As a teen entrepreneur, you might benefit from establishing a sole proprietorship, limited liability company (LLC), or corporation. A sole proprietorship is the easiest to set up and manage. But forming an LLC will protect you from personal liability, yield pass-through taxation, and provide other perks.
If you ever hope to scale your business, it could be worthwhile to set up a corporation. Investors are drawn to corporations because it’s typically easier to transfer a corporation’s shares than the membership interests of an LLC. Corporations are also more predictable and provide all the benefits of an LLC. Consider using an online formation service to ensure your corporation complies with all state regulations.
Develop Your Marketing Strategies
Once you start to lay a foundation for your new business, begin thinking of how you can promote it to the masses. These days, it’s critical to utilize social media, email, paid ads, and other digital marketing channels for building an online presence. But traditional marketing methods can also help you build brand recognition.
Consider using a DIY business card maker to create professional-grade business cards that will leave a lasting impression on your target customers. You can choose one of many pre-made templates and customize it with any typography, colors, text, and images you want. Many customers like business cards because it gives them something to hold and remember companies by.
Starting a business as a teen can teach you invaluable life skills that benefit your career and personal life for many years to come. Summer hours begin effective immediately. We are open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 12-4pm.
Roving Quarter Sale: we are going to try something different this summer. I cannot run my usual quarter sale during the summer because it becomes too crowded in the store during the busy season. But I need to unload some bargain stuff. So each week one bookcase/subject in the bargain section will be on sale…$0.25/book. I will announce each weekend which bookcase/subject will have the sale that coming week, and it will continue all 4 days we’re open. There is not a predetermined list of which subjects are coming when… It will be based on which sections are overfull. The sale is first come-first served—I cannot reserve these books ahead of time.
I realize this is not convenient for people coming from a distance, but we should be able to run a standard quarter sale in the fall.
